EU AI Act Enters into Force

On August 1, 2024, the European Union’s Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) officially entered into force. This landmark legislation introduces a risk-based framework for AI systems, categorizing them into minimal, limited, high, and unacceptable risk levels. High-risk AI systems, such as those used in critical infrastructure, education, and employment, are subject to strict requirements, including conformity assessments and registration in an EU database. The Act aims to ensure that AI technologies are safe and respect fundamental rights, impacting businesses developing or deploying AI within the EU.
