The CNIL noted its review of GDPR compliance does not fall under the one-stop-shop mechanism because the audio-based social media application has no establishment in the EEA.

If it is confirmable that the application published by Alpha Exploration Co. Inc. does not comply with the GDPR, the CNIL may exercise its own authority.

CNIL opens an investigation into the Clubhouse App. The Clubhouse voice app was launched in California in March 2020.  As yet, only offered on IOS, it allows its users to join chat rooms, in which are discussed, at specific times, topics ranging in every respect.

The application that records all the discussions that take place in the rooms, which launches once you have entered your phone number, automatically imports your contact book, to create a profile for all users.

A recent report from the Stanford Internet Observatory specified that some user metadata was stored unencrypted.

One of the spokespersons for Clubhouse Reem Bahnasy has confirmed that a user had managed to broadcast audio streams from several rooms on his own site.

However, the application has ensured that the user has been banned from the application and that it has taken measures to prevent such an incident from happening again.
